Details
This magnificent FRERS designed Beneteau First 51 has certainly stood the test of time, and has an appeal that many current designs will envy! Built in the CNB yard of Beneteau Yachts where quality and attention to detail were paramount, this vessel is of a similar design and quality to a Swan, and is superbly equipped as a true bluewater cruiser/racer. This performance orientated vessel started life competing in many races around the US Great Lakes region with much success, and is a sistership to La Poste which did the 1989 Whitbread Round the World Race, winning one of the legs. The vessel was then upgraded to a serious world cruising yacht in the late 1990's. The original owners cruised the Pacific extensively, and subsequent owners (professional engineers) cruised the Alaska region for six years prior to the vessel being sailed to Western Australia, where a major no expense spared re-fit was undertaken in the Late 2000's. The attention to detail in this vessels fitout has to be seen to be fully appreciated! It presents in first class condition ready for its next adventure!

Inside, the traditional timber fit out is truely stunning and gives the vessel a warm ambience. The saloon is spacious with seating around the dinette for 8 in comfort. The twin "club" chairs opposite are the perfect place to relax and read. The galley is well laid out for preparing meals both under way and at anchor and features a 3 burner stove with oven and grill, 2 bowl stainless steel sinks with hot and cold water, and a large top loading fridge perfect for long passages. The accommodation is very well appointed with a large "owners cabin" aft with huge king sized bed, seating, and private access to the bathroom. Forward are two bunk rooms each with two singles complete with lee cloths to keep crew secure. The forepeak is utilised as a storage space and workshop which is essential for the long range cruiser. This is a true sailors yacht and the traditional chart table and electronics will impress even the most discerning yachtsman. Having been cruised in a range of climates, the vessel is also fitted with ducted heating by a very efficient and effective diesel heater to keep crew comfortable in any weather.

Whilst the racing heritage of the vessel is still evident, this vessel is now very well set up to be managed short handed and features a cutter rig with both headsails on furlers, 3 speed Lewmar primary winches, an electric halyard winch, over-size rope clutches, and wide clear side decks with a moulded non-slip finish for safe access forward. The boat is very well laid out from the twin wheels steering, to the spacious and comfortable cruising cockpit complete with cushions, and the "stepped bridge deck" a Swan type feature but improved to the extent it becomes a great spot under the dodger when on watch during the longer passages with the remote autopilot control at hand or sailing under wind vane steering.

The vessel is powered by a Perkins 80hp Diesel in excellent "as new" condition with all round access making servicing etc very easy.

The full inventory of this vessel is extensive and lacking nothing and the vessel has just been antifouled and had prop speed SEPTEMBER 2020. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a magnificent cruiser which can also be successfully raced if you desire. Capable of 200NM days with ease, this is an opportunity not to be missed!
