Details
Originally designed by David Lyons to the Mount Gay box rule, Prion is a light displacement yacht who can chase down much larger opponents in many conditions. The design features a narrow waterline beam and low wetted surface area, making her a great all-round performer both offshore and around the buoys. Prion was modified with a new keel prior to competing in the 2006 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, and is capable of competing in further Cat 1 offshore races. She is also fitted with a very effective water ballast system, with 300 litres either side which can be filled within 90 seconds. THIS MAKES PRION A FAST AND CAPABLE DOUBLED HANDED PROSPECT, PERFECT FOR NEXT YEARS INAUGURAL DOUBLE HANDED DIVISION OF THE SYDNEY TO HOBART!

Prion is the CURRENT TASMANIAN STATE AMS CHAMPION (div 2) and a regular competitor in all the major local offshore races. Since 2016, she has been CONTINUOUSLY UPGRADED AND OPTIMISED including a custom bowsprit, full re fairing of the hull, deck and topside respray, new B&G Instruments, full electrical rewire, new folding prop, a tiller pilot added for double handed racing, new batteries, and presents in excellent condition ready to race. Her sail inventory is impressive with many new sails from North including a 2017 Nordac Main, and 2019 RAW 760 J2 which has never been used. See the sail inventory for the comprehensive list of sails.

Prion's interior is tidy and functional with new floor boards, a 2 burner gimballed Metho stove, and provides accommodation for 6 (2 fixed berths and 4 pip cots). She has a well maintained and regularly serviced Yanmar 20HP with only 1140 hours on it, which easily powers her at 6 knots.

Whether you are looking for an Offshore Double Handed yacht, or fully crewed around the cans racer, Prion has the rating and the ability to excel at both. This yacht has had a serious amount of money spent on her over the last 3 years, and is ready for new owners to start racing. The owner is committed to a larger yacht and is keen to sell.
