Superbly built and maintained, this stunning traditional Gaff Rigged Ketch is something very special. Built in 1949 in the Marietta Cove Boat Yard in Nova Scotia, the vessel was designed by E. H. Hamilton on the lines of a traditional trading ketch, to be a pleasure vessel for its original owner. The vessel was later purchased by an experienced cruising couple in 1974 who cruised extensively into the high latitudes of the Atlantic Ocean, through the Pacific, and eventually stopped in Sydney. Here is underwent a comprehensive refit including new bow sprit, coach house, and galley. The current owner then purchased the vessel in 2007, and has enjoyed local cruising around Southern Tasmania, included numerous into the Southern Ocean as far as 54degS (the latitude of Macquarie Island!). Having only the three fastidious and highly experienced owners from its launch, this vessel has been very well maintained, and presents in excellent condition through out. With its charming traditional aesthetics, impressive Bluewater capability, and comfortable interior, this vessel is sure to impress!
Stepping inside, the interior has a light and airy ambience with clean white finishes and plenty of timber trims. To port is a dinette with seating for 4 in comfort on the neatly upholstered settees. Opposite is a comfortable lounge which doubles as a berth when required. The well appointed galley is along the starboard side and includes a NEW 2021 2 burner gas stove with oven, 40L ice chest, double bowl stainless steel sink, and plenty of storage. Opposite is the private bathroom complete with toilet and hanging space for wet weather gear. The generous master cabin is forward and is beautifully appointed with a generous double berth. The dinette also drops down to convert to a double berth when addition accommodation is required.
On deck, the vessel is well set up for shorthanded sailing with the main and mizzen both in boom bags with lazy jacks, and the furling headsail. There is plenty or room around the wide side decks, and multiple spaces to relax and enjoy the scenery in your favourite anchorage. Near the main mast there are useful storage compartments, and forward is an electric anchor winch for easy anchoring.
This vessel is powered by a well maintained and reliable Ford Bagenham. This provides easy cruising at 6 to 7 knots. There is excellent access to the engine behind the companionway steps for hassle free servicing.
