Details
The gorgeous 64ft timber motor cruiser "J-Lee-M" has embedded itself in Tasmanian history. Built with rare Tasmanian Huon pine timber by Jim Jones and Jock Muir, this classic motor cruiser presents a truly unique and special package. Having spent several years in commercial operation in Strahan on Tasmania's rugged West Coast, J-Lee-M is proven to be a brilliantly capable and economical cruiser thanks to its slippery hull design and waterline length. J-Lee-M sports a fantastic and interesting design and layout, making it more akin to the likes of a Dutch canal boat, but with the cruising ability of a traditional motor cruiser. This design allows J-Lee-M to provide fantastic and roomy living/entertaining spaces onboard.
The pilothouse provides extraordinary visibility around 360 degrees with an enormous U-shape lounge facing the helm forwards, complemented by a beautiful timber coffee table in the centre. The helm is beautifully detailed with a wide variety of electronics to support long distance cruising to remote locations. This operational space manages to retain the heritage and charm with a wonderful original helm wheel and gear/throttle controls for the original Gardner motor. Sitting adjacent to the helm station is a handy settee that faces to port.
Access to the forward accommodation and engine room can be found in the front of the pilothouse to the starboard side of the helm. The forepeak provides simple accommodation for 3 across a large double berth and a single bunk. Facing towards the aft from this cabin is main access to the spacious engine room. Sporting great headroom and uncluttered spaces, the engine room of J-Lee-M presents brilliantly. Sitting central and proud is the renowned single Garnder 6L3 114hp diesel engine, providing the vessel with a 12 knots top speed and easy cruising speed of 8-9 knots with drive through a single screw shaft. An ISUZU generator fitted in 2012 can be found to the starboard side of the main engine, providing plenty of 240V power to the vessel for entertaining or cruising. This workspace provides great uncluttered access to all areas of regular maintenance, with the main Gardner engine itself presenting in great condition following regular servicing and proper care.
Resurfacing to the pilothouse, navigating the decks onboard are safe and easy with wide and uncluttered decks flanking both sides with high railing that features stunning varnished timber railings throughout. The aft deck provides access into the main living areas, with the first space housing twin settees/berths down both the port and starboard sides, doubling as excellent storage. Moving forward and down a couple steps, the port side houses a head with toilet and basin, while sitting adjacent and to the starboard side is a large separate shower compartment. These two complimentary spaces create a short corridor that leads into what could be named as the main saloon. This area is truly expansive with a long movable bench seat to the starboard side and a transformable bunk/table on the port side, an area which can be easily customised to the preferences of the owner. To the front of this space is a partitioned galley area with a gas oven and stove, large basin, microwave and standing fridge.
The magnificent J-Lee-M truly presents a unique and historic package which presents in fantastic condition throughout. With its original Gardner 6L3 engine and a host of modern upgrades, she is ready to work for its new owner.
